PASS Opus Update: Certificate Corrections, Course Launches & Credits (September 2026)
Every month we improve PASS Opus, our training platform. Here is what is new for administrators, trainers, and learners in September 2026.
Nine changes shipped, and one state approval came back. Most of them take away a phone call somebody used to have to make.

Certificates & Records
A Facility Admin can now fix the date on a third-party certificate. Somebody uploads a certificate they earned elsewhere, types the expiration date wrong, and the record lands in Expired. Until this month, an expired record was the one record a Facility Admin couldn't open. Fixing one typo meant asking a Company Admin, and a Company Admin login also carries invoices, billing and the whole company's user list. Facility Admins can now correct third-party certificates at the facilities they're assigned to, and Director Admins can do the same across the companies they manage. Trainings taken on PASS Opus itself stay locked once they expire, the same as before.
Fix the date and the Expired label clears on its own. The status used to stay where it was, so you could be looking at a record marked Expired with a good date printed right under it. Now the status follows the date. If an admin picks a status on purpose, that choice still wins. Every correction is also logged against the learner's account: the old value, the new value, who changed it and when. If anyone ever asks why a date moved, our support team can tell you.
Admins can archive an expired training themselves. An expired training used to sit on a learner's record until someone asked our support team to clear it. Company Admins, Facility Admins and Director Admins now see an Archive Training button on any expired training and can put it away in one click. Only expired trainings can be archived, so a live course can't be cleared by mistake. The same change fixed a permissions slip that showed Facility Admins a Remove Training button and then told them they weren't allowed to use it.
Names and addresses with accented letters now print on every PDF. A company address with a letter like "ā" used to stop the document from being made at all. Invoices, paid receipts, certificates, the Designated UST Operators List and commission reports were all affected. Every PDF the platform makes now uses a font that covers the full range of letters, so a name spelled properly comes out spelled properly.
Trainings
A course that won't start now tells the learner what to do. Some of our courses are delivered through a training partner. When that connection had a bad moment, the learner got a raw error page with no explanation and no next step. For the kind of hiccup that clears up by itself, the platform now quietly tries again before giving up. If it still can't start the course, the learner lands back on the training page with a message: wait a moment and try again, or, when trying again will never fix it, contact support. Support also gets a note saying exactly which step failed, so the answer comes faster when you do call.
A pass now reaches your own learning system even when the connection drops. If your company runs our courses from inside its own learning system through the AICC Integration, PASS Opus sends each pass back to that system. It already tried again when the connection timed out or was refused. It now does the same when your system drops the secure connection partway through, which is what stopped one learner's pass from arriving earlier this month. A pass that gets through is a learner who doesn't have to prove they finished.
Illinois renewed its approval of our Class A/B and Class C operator training. Illinois approves UST operator training courses for five years at a time, and ours was coming up. We sent the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal the full renewal package: the trainer application, both courses, the outlines and timing, sample certificates and how we confirm a learner finished. The approval came back on September 21. If you train operators in Illinois, nothing changes for you, and that's the point.
Billing & Credits
Two admins can no longer overdraw the same credit pool. If two admins assigned the last credit in a pool at the same moment, both went through and the balance landed at minus one. A negative balance reads as no credit at all, so every later assignment from that pool was blocked until somebody fixed it by hand. Credits are now handed out one at a time, and the balance is checked again at the moment the credit is used, so the second admin sees the usual not-enough-credit message instead. The training and the credit are also saved together now, so a credit that fails to come off the balance can't leave behind a training nobody paid for.

The Changelog link in the footer now opens these monthly updates. It used to point at a page that hadn't been updated since 2017. It now opens the PASS Opus Updates category on our news blog, where this post lives, so last month's changes are one click from the bottom of any page.
