PASS Opus Update: State Course Pages, Failed Trainings & Certificates (August 2026)
Most product updates are about buttons. This one starts with the courses, because that is the part you actually buy.
Operator training is a state rule, not a national one. Two states can both call it Class A/B training and mean different deadlines, a different renewal clock, and a different agency doing the inspecting. Our course pages said what the course covered without saying who was asking for it.
In August we rewrote 29 of them, one state and jurisdiction at a time. Five platform fixes shipped alongside, and one of them stops a failed training from disappearing.
Course Pages
Each rewritten page opens with the agency that regulates underground storage tanks in that state, and links to that agency's own operator training page. Ohio names the State Fire Marshal's Bureau of Underground Storage Tank Regulations, the office everyone there calls BUSTR. Texas names the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. If you have ever had to prove to a district inspector that the course you bought was the right one, that first paragraph is the answer.
Under that, every page follows the same three parts: why the training matters in that state, the topics the course covers, and the format and certificate details. Where a state lists approved training providers and PASS is on it, the page says so.
Five of the 29 are exam preparation rather than approved training, and the pages now say which is which. California, New Hampshire and Wyoming prepare you for an International Code Council exam. New York and Minnesota prepare you for the state's own test. That difference decides whether finishing the course finishes your requirement, so it sits at the top of the page. Alabama and Alaska got the same treatment on their marketplace listings, and more states are on the list.
Trainings
A learner who exits a course early can come back scored zero, and the platform records that as a failure. Until now a failed training matched no tab at all, so it was invisible to the learner and to their training admin. It now shows in the In Progress list with a red badge that reads Failed - Click to Resume and links straight back to the course. The learner picks it up, passes, and the training flips to complete on its own.
Three things follow, and each one saves somebody a phone call. A failed training counts on your Incomplete Trainings report, triggers the usual reminder email, and holds that learner's seat, so we stop offering you a second credit for training already underway.
Completion dates were landing on the day of the failed exit rather than the day of the pass. Certificates and reports now carry the real date.
Access, Accounts & Certificates
Clicking Add New on a facility used to return an authorization error for every director admin. They can now add a user from a facility page the same way they always could from the users page.
In July we changed how certificate verification links are built, and links in the older format stopped opening. Both formats work again, so an employer, regulator or auditor checking a completion gets there on the first click, whether the link they were handed is from this month or last year.
